and the story goes..

ALLEYCATS – HINGGA AKHIR NANTI

Music plays an important role in the lives of people all around the world. Here in Malaysia we are very fortunate to have a band whose music has reached across our nation and touched the hearts of people from all age group regardless of race and religion. 1969 saw the birth of one of Malaysia’s most famous multiracial band that is still talked about, liked and till today reflect the true meaning of the word ‘Malaysian’.

Alleycats currently perform at The Heritage Club at the Royal Chulan Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Having been for their performances many times, this group still has the magical touch to mesmerise the crowd even after four decades. Alleycats have gone through some changes with their band members through the years but for every show that you attend their performance is nothing short of the best.
It is amazing to see the humbleness of this group even after having so many hit songs and records throughout their career. Let’s get to know the current magical voices and the music magicians behind the success of this band.

David Arumugam – Vocals
David is one of the founding members, the most pioneer and the sole remaining original member of Alleycats. Famous for his Afro hairstyle which has not changed for the past 40 years, maybe just gone a little smaller, he is generally a very quiet person. However, once you engage in a conversation with him, there is a huge amount of warmth and sincerity present in him which can be felt instantly. He is very witty with his jokes and his caring nature is much to be admired. There is not one person in Malaysia who knows Alleycats that will not know the famous signature ‘ Trrrima K’siiihhhh’ that David belts out after singing any song. Till today, you can hear a thunderous applaud when he says it......

Gerard Abisheganaden
Vocals Gerard is the newest member of Alleycats. A very tall and talented individual, he has smoothly fitted into the band perfectly. Known for his little mischieves on and off stage, Gerard brings a lot of fun and life into the band, occasionally teasing band members while they perform. As a person, he is easy to get along with, very seldom seen without a hearty laugh or smile and can hypnotise you with his unique greyish green coloured eyes.

Jimie Loh – Bass
Jimie has been with the band for about 8 years. He has a very pleasant personality and if you have a chance to speak to him you will notice how soft spoken he is. An extremely calm and caring individual who will make you feel that you’ve known him for years even if you were meeting him for the first time. Multiracial as they are famous for, Jimmi really upkeeps his part of it with his amazing ‘A-ha’ when the band sings the famous Indian song Surangani, one definitely not to be missed.

Boy – Drums
The youngest member of the band, hence the nickname ‘Boy’, he will strike you as a very serious person but as the saying goes....’Don’t judge a book by its cover’, he is surely far from serious. Sit with him for a good 20 minutes and he will have you tearing with laughter with his jokes and his innocent boyish smile. He has been with the band for about 10 years and has amazingly mastered the drumming to all the songs just by listening to them. Wanna see his drumming come to life......Suara Kekasih is the song......

Din Nazaruddin – Lead Guitar
This gentleman is probably best described by Diana King’s song ‘Shy Guy’...... and is the coolest amongst the band members. Tucked quietly at the far corner of the stage, with his cool composure, this guitar wizard can certainly give you the ‘goosebumps’ when you listen to him play songs such as Hotel California by Eagles and Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits.

Mike Pravin – Keyboards
Mike has been with the band a little over 15 years. Besides David, he is the next longest serving band member. Though he is a man of few words, he actually has a very warm smile and gentle nature and is said to be quite quick with his jokes and is a lot of fun to be around.

And always will remain in spirit.........
Loganathan Arumugam – Vocals
Fondly known as Loga to all, he is the brother of David Arumugam. Unfortunately, Loga passed away in June 2007 after months of battling cancer. For those who knew him either personally or have seen him perform, know him to be a very high spirited, jovial and friendly person with an absolutely flashing smile. Many will have their ways of remembering him, perhaps his happy nature, the way he played the flute, the way he played the tambourine or the way he danced on stage with his hands up high......for us, we will always remember him to be all the above and one of the very few talented singers who could sing the song American Pie to perfection.......Through Alleycats, his passion and music will live on.....

Surely many of us have wondered how the name Alleycats came about. Well, the story goes like this........ The name was chosen by their then manager Mr Ronnie Chiang Kai Chock. Believe it or not, it was simply because he lived and used to hang out near an alley where there were many cats....... So there you have it, a simple name for the most simple and humble natured.........
